WAARN Supporters
Support our work
Help keep NewsWest on air every week, and help us bring back PerthTech.
NewsWest has gone to air every week for decades, made entirely by volunteers. Running it costs money: hosting every episode back to 2019, the podcast feed, this website, the vk6.net domain, and the equipment our producers use. Events like PerthTech cost more again.
WAARN Supporters is how listeners, clubs and businesses can keep it all going. A small yearly contribution from enough people covers our running costs completely, and builds a fund so we can bring back PerthTech without the money worries.

Where your support goes
- Keeping NewsWest on air and online: audio hosting and the archive, the podcast feed, the website and the vk6.net domain.
- Equipment and software for the volunteers who produce the news each week.
- PerthTech: a fund to bring back our one-day technical seminar in Perth, with presentations and demonstrations from amateurs who know their subject, so it can be planned with confidence and kept affordable for everyone who comes.
- Training: courses like Newshound101 that help amateurs write, record and produce for radio.
The committee reports what supporters’ contributions paid for at each annual general meeting.
A note for businesses
NewsWest is broadcast on the amateur radio bands, which can’t be used for commercial purposes. So businesses are never mentioned on air, and sponsorship can’t buy airtime. We’re glad to thank our sponsors everywhere else: on this website and at PerthTech.

Other ways to help
Not everyone can give money, and that’s fine. You can also help by:
- Giving a callback, on air or online. Callback numbers show the WIA and our sponsors that NewsWest matters.
- Sending your club’s news. Here’s how.
- Relaying NewsWest from your station or repeater. Here’s how.
- Recording a promo script. Pick one.
- Telling a newcomer about getting licensed.
To every broadcaster, repeater owner, contributor, reader and listener: thank you for your time, your energy, your transmitter and your voice.
