VI6CRO, Carnarvon
WA Amateur Radio News supported VI6CRO at the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum, April 2023.
In April 2023, thousands of people travelled to Western Australia’s Gascoyne region for the total solar eclipse on 20 April. Exmouth was booked out, and Carnarvon planned a week of festivities around the event, including a daily “Night at the Museum” at the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum.
Amateur radio was on show at the museum that week, with a display and live demonstration of equipment from the era, alongside modern satellite tracking. The special callsign VI6CRO reflected the original NASA Carnarvon callsign, CRO.
Dan VK6NAD organised the amateur radio booth inside the museum, kitted out with new promotional material. With a live station on display, visitors could see and hear amateur radio in action. Those staffing the booth fielded plenty of questions and handed out leaflets to help interested people find amateur radio when they got home.
WA Amateur Radio News sponsored the activity, and Dan had help from others.
